ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE AND AYURVEDA TREATMENT

Ischemic Heart Disease Treatment, Nagpur at Parijatak Ayurveda

The word ‘ischaemic’ implies reduced blood supply. Ischaemic heart disease means a decrease in blood supply to the heart muscles, Ischemic Heart Disease and Ayurveda Treatment. Coronary arteries are the main supplier of blood to the cardiac muscles. Ischemic heart disease is mainly caused by atherosclerosis or the deposition of cholesterol into arteries which leads to the reduced blood supply to heart muscles caused by the narrowing of arteries. This results in the death of heart muscles, tissues resulting in heart failure or heart attack.

Ischemic Heart Disease- What Are the Consequences?

The heart is the main organ of the circulatory system present in our body which supplies blood to all other organs. Any defect in heart immediately impairs the supply of oxygen to the vital organs of our body viz., kidney, liver, brain, leading to the death of tissues in that organ. This is followed by functional failure of that organ.

What Causes Ischemic Heart Disease?

    • Smoking
    • Diabetes
    • Hyperlipidemia
    • Hypertension
    • Stress
    • Hereditary
    • Lack of exercise
    • Obesity

Symptoms of the Heart Disease

    • Pain in the chest, neck, arm and shoulder region
    • Dyspnoea
    • Sweating
    • Swelling of extremities
    • A headache
    • A cough
    • Fatigue

Doctors usually prescribe the following medicines for ischemic heart disease:
    • Beta blockers- like propranolol, atenolol, timolol
    • Organic nitrates like isosorbide dinitrates, isosorbide mononitrates
    • Calcium channel blockers like amlodipine, nifedipine
    • Statins like Atorvastatin, Fluvastatin
    • Aspirin

Prevention of Ischemic Heart Disease

    • Healthy diet
    • Regular exercise
    • Abstinence from smoking
    • Maintenance of body weight
    • Yoga and meditation

Ayurvedic Perception of Ischemic Heart Disease

The heart is mulsthan of rasavah strotas; rasa dhatu is formed from the gastric juices. Vitiated rasa dhatu goes into the heart and causes blockages of small channels resulting in Ischemic Heart Disease. Rasa dhatu gets impaired by improper functioning of the digestive system (known as mandagni in Ayurveda) due to overindulgence in eating and stress.
The heart is also the site of sadhak pitta, the subdosha of Pitta that is linked with the processing of emotions. Sadhak pitta needs to be balanced for better emotional health. Avalmbaka kapha found in chest takes care of blood circulation and respiration. Prana vayu is responsible for Rasa – rakta sanhanam, which means blood circulation. Hence, when we talk about ischemic heart disease we have to think about all above dhatus.
Ayurvedic Treatment

Ayurvedic treatment of Ischemia provide:
    • Restoration of digestion to prevent the formation of amma i.e., toxins in the body
    • Cleansing of strotras or the channels
    • Toning and strengthening of heart muscles
    • Rejuvenation of tissues
    • Relaxation of mind

Ayurvedic Medicines Recommended:

    • Arjuna – It contains cardioprotective compounds, acts as an antioxidant and reduces cholesterol level.
    • Punarnava – It acts as a diuretic, and minimizes fluid overload on the heart.
    • Cardamom– Also called dalchini, it acts as a vasodilator. It dilates blood vessels for good circulation and reduces blood cholesterol level.
    • Ashwagandha – It has anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties. Ashwagandha provides strength to heart muscles and promotes its good health.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Low blood pressure

Low  blood pressure And Ayurveda

    • Low blood pressure is also known as hypotension. The normal range of blood pressure is 120-140mmHg of systolic and 70-80mmHg of diastolic. The fall in blood pressure below the normal range is called as hypotension. When readings are consistently lower than 90/60mm Hg, it’s considered as hypotension. Some of the major reasons of hypotension are nutritional deficiencies, dehydration and endocrine disorders.
    • Symptoms:
    • Dizziness
    • nausea
    • fatigue
    • palpitations
    • Lethergy
    • Weakness
    • The patient may faint, especially if arterial pressure is lowered further when he assumes an erect position. These symptoms are presumably due to a decrease in perfusion of blood to brain, heart, skeletal muscle and other organs

Causes

    • Faulty nutrition is main cause behind this. It causes relaxation of wall tissue of the blood vessels which makes the blood tissue  flabby or stretched. This results in less supply of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. Malnutrition can result from a diet deficient in calories, proteins, vitamin C, or almost any one of he B vitamins.
Severe loss of blood is also responsible for hypotension. Low blood pressure may also develop gradually because of slow bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, or bladder.
Emotional problems are also responsible for hypotension.
Dehydration also leads to hypotension
Some Endocrine disoders are also responsible for hypotension.

Ayurvedic Aspect

    • In vata pitta vruddhi, kaphakshaya, ojakshaya ,bhramalaksanas are seen. Glani is seen in
    • The medicines we give are usna, tiksnavyavayi and rasayana in nature .whenprakrutakapha is stable, hypotension is very minimally seen, Hypotension is actually a rasaksayalaksana in Ayurveda.
    • Many times dizziness, fainting are attributed to low BP.
    • The following conditions should be kept in mind

    • Over exposure to heat
    • Diarrhoea
    • Undergoing diuretic treatment / Nitrates
    • Over bleeding , sweating and Urination
    • Abnormal heart rhythm- commonly atrial fibrillation.
    • Immediately after heart attack
    • Pulmonary embolism
    • Some anti depressants
    • In diabetes and parkinsonism where autonomic nervous system is involved.
    • In the above said conditions, when pressure is low, brain gets affected.
    • Blood con not reach the brain as it is against the gravity, hence one feels dizzy, and they may faint.
    • When vital organ malfunction occurs due to low BP, it is termed as shock

Treatment

    • Lower the level of the head and raise the level of legs by keeping 2-3 pillows.
    • Keep some pickle under the tongue.
